Eye Screening Exams

Animal Eye Clinic of Waterloo Region image

What does OFA mean?

OFA is an organization set up in the USA to maintain a registry of eye examinations performed on registered dogs. This allows people to see the health status of animals they may want to breed their dog with.

There are equivalent organizations around the world and you should consider these if you are planning on bringing a dog into Canada.

Australia - Australian Canine Eye Scheme

Great Britain - British Veterinary Association Eye Scheme

Europe - European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists Eye Scheme

Where can I get an OFA Eye exam for my dog?

Dr. Whelan regularly performs OFA exams at predetermined clinics around Ontario.

OFA eye exams are also available on an individual basis at our clinic.  Appointments can be made for those by calling us directly.

**Due to an increase in last minute cancellations, owners showing up with less dogs then booked or just not showing up for scheduled OFA exams, there is a new clinic policy.

Any OFA exam appointment booked for 3 or more dogs will require prepayment by credit card at the time of booking for the agreed number of dogs.  Should less dogs attend the day of the scheduled exam, the prepayment fee will be the same as if all dogs had attended.  There will be no refund as the time has been booked off to examine the previously agreed number of dogs.

Not showing up for a previously agreed OFA exam appointment will result in no further appointments being available for the owner at this or any other OFA clinic being run by Dr. Whelan.**
